About Ekadashi
Ekadashi is a sacred day that occurs twice a month in the Hindu lunar calendar, falling on the 11th day of each waxing and waning moon cycle. The word "Ekadashi" literally means "eleventh" in Sanskrit.
Considered highly auspicious, Ekadashi is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is observed with great devotion by many Hindus, especially Vaishnavites. Devotees typically observe a fast from grains and beans, dedicating the day to spiritual practices such as prayer, meditation, and reading sacred texts.
Each Ekadashi has its own name and significance, with some being considered more important than others. The observance of Ekadashi is believed to bestow numerous spiritual and material benefits, including the cleansing of sins, improved health, and progress on the path of self-realization.
The practice of charity, particularly food donation, is highly encouraged on Ekadashi days, as it is believed to multiply the spiritual merits of the giver. This makes Ekadashi an ideal time for seva (selfless service) and spiritual advancement.
